Rapper 21 Savage, has been arrested by ICE in a “targeted operation” according to ICE spokesman Bryan Cox. The Grammy nominated rapper was arrested Sunday morning, as ICE claims he is from the United Kingdom.
ICE claims 21 Savage whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph overstayed his visa in the United States, which makes him an illegal immigrant.
“Abraham-Joseph is an unlawfully present United Kingdom national who came to the U.S. on a visa in July 2005. His visa expired a year later,” says Cox.
Unfortunately not only is 21 Savage in the U.S on an expired visa, but he was also convicted of felony drug charges in 2014 in Fulton County, GA. This makes his case a lot more complexed as he possibly faces deportation.
21 Savage gas been placed in “removal proceedings” before the federal immigration courts,” says Cox.
According to 21’s attorney Dina LaPolt “we are working diligently to get Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding,”
21 Savage recently performed his song “Alot” on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.” Towards the end of the song, 21 talks about immigration.
This breaking news about 21 Savage comes as a shock to many of his fans leaving them confused. 21 has always repped being an Atlanta native from Zone 6 East Atlanta. Apparently no one knew 21 was was born in the U.K and that he British. He never mentioned being British in his music or in any interview.
